Starting My Juice Fast

by JT on July 19, 2011

Last week I watch a movie called Fat Sick and Nearly Dead. It’s about a guy from New Zealand that started a 60 day juice fast and traveled over America. He was over weight and taking a bunch of pills for medical problems. He got off the pills and lost all the weight during the movie which was about a 120 days. That part was cool but on his journey he motivated a man that was extremely over weight and came back to America to help him out. It was one of the best documentaries I have seen in a long long time! I have been losing weight for the last 3 weeks but it motivated me even more. It is available on Netflix right now if you have Netflix and want stream it.

It was so motivated I signed up for the Reboot My Life program on his site to start my own juice fast. I plan on trying it for 30 days so I went ahead and bought a good juicer. It came in the mail on Monday and tonight was the first night I used it to try out. Wow it was nice. My first juice was carrots, celery, tomatoes, spinach, and parsley. The whole drink was almost 31oz and only 240 calories and wow it filled me up. For today I am only at 1029 calories and I am full.

So since I wanted to start it soon I made a list of what I would need to juice 4 drinks a day for 7 days and wow it was mind blowing and I think will be a little pricey.

  • 4 Cucumbers
  • 7 cups of Cabbage
  • 28 cups of Parsley
  • 21 cups of Chard
  • 35 Apples
  • 14 Asian Pears
  • 35 Beets
  • 42 Carrots
  • 42 Celery Stalks
  • 14 Ginger Root (1 inch pieces)
  • 35 Handfuls of Spinach
  • 7 Jalapenos
  • 98 Kale leaves
  • 84 Red Radishes
  • 28 Tomatoes

This list is just 1 person for 7 days. I figure this will cost at least $150 a week and Kari (my girlfriend) wants to do it as well for at least 10 days. I guess you can’t put a price on healthy eating and it’s still cheaper that eating out all week as well.

I still plan on doing it but I think we might just buy to make juice in the morning and for lunch and eat a normal dinner for the first week to try it out and to not be as expensive.

What do you guys think? Have you seen the movie?
